Three steps to choosing your ideal keywords

OK, so you’ve learned the basics of how to actually do keyword research for free. You’ve got your topics, you’ve got your keywords and you’ve added to that with some related search terms. Now before you start creating content around these topics. Here are three things you need to remember when choosing your ideal keywords.

RELEVANCE

Now we know that Google ranks content based on relevance. That is your content will only rank for your chosen keyword if it meets the searcher’s needs. Plus your content also needs to be the best resource out there for that search query. Because why would Google rank your content higher than someone else’s if it provides less value than other content that exists on the web?

AUTHORITY

We also know that Google will provide more weight to those sources that it deems authoritative. This means that you need to do everything you can to become an authoritative source on your chosen niche.

You can do this by enriching your site with lots of helpful information and content and then promoting that content on your social media and through backlinks. This is because if you’re not seen as an authoritative figure in your chosen niche you have a lower chance of ranking for that search term.

VOLUME

And the final thing to remember when choosing your ideal keywords is that you need to make sure people are searching for that keyword. You could end up ranking on page one for a specific keyword. But if no-one is searching for it. Then you won’t get the traffic to your site.

So these are the three steps to choosing your ideal keywords. Let me know in the comments below what other steps you take when picking your keywords. And let me know if you have any other questions or comments on keywords and keyword research.
