What is a rich pin and why do I need them on Pinterest?

So if you’ve read any of my posts on Pinterest so far. Then you know that I’ve mentioned Rich Pins before. So if you’re new to Pinterest. Or looking to see your traffic skyrocket from using the platform. Then let me explain what is a rich pin and why you need them on Pinterest.

So according to Pinterest. They define a rich pin as ‘Rich Pins show metadata right on the pin itself, giving pinners a richer experience and increasing engagement. Information in a rich pin is independent of the pin description, ensuring that important information is always tied to the pin.’

There are sic types of rich pins, and they are:

  • App Pins include an install button, so Pinners can download your app without ever leaving Pinterest
  • Movie Pins include ratings, cast members and reviews to help Pinners learn about new flicks
  • Recipe Pins include ingredients, cooking times and serving info to get Pinterest cooks excited to hit the kitchen
  • Article Pins include headline, author and story description, helping Pinners find and save stories that matter to them
  • Product Pins include real time pricing, availability and where to buy. Pinners may also get notifications when prices drop more than 10%
  • Place Pins include a map, address, and phone number

Essentially rich pins are a great way to have your content stand out amongst the crowd on Pinterest. It’ll help give your products more visibility and a boost. And it helps the pins catch the Pinner’s eye because of the look and feel of the pin.

To add rich pins to your Pinterest, you actually need to apply for them before you can start using them. To do this, just visit the Pinterest help page where it clearly lists exactly what you need to do to get rich pins on your Pinterest account.
