GET PERSONAL
Being personal and having personal touches in your email is one of the most important elements you should strive for in every campaign you do. The basics of this are addressing a subscriber by name. But it’s more than just that. It’s also about being relevant to them and their interests. Sending emails in a timely manner. And anticipating what your subscriber’s needs are, and how you can solve their problems.
IT’S NOT ALL ABOUT THE PROMOTIONS
While your ultimate goal of growing your subscriber list might be to grow your business, you need to understand that promotions are not the core function of email marketing. At the heart of email marketing should be the desire to establish and nurture healthy relationships with your potential customers. As it’s the healthy relationships that will result in customers providing lifetime value and acting as a driving force behind the growth of your business.
UNSUBSCRIBES CAN BE A GOOD THING
You’re not going to be everyone’s cup of tea and that’s OK. If your content isn’t relevant to your subscriber, then let them unsubscribe. I’d much rather have a smaller email subscriber list but it be full of people who are engaged with my content. Then a huge list full of people I can’t please.
ONLY SEND WHEN YOU HAVE SOMETHING VALUABLE TO SHARE
While it can be tempting to send emails every week, just because you promised them a weekly newsletter when they signed up. If you’re not adding value, don’t press the send button. Only send an email when you’ve got something relevant to share and you’re adding value to their life. Otherwise, you could end up losing a good subscriber.
BE RELEVANT TO YOUR AUDIENCE
Email marketing really isn’t about the channel or the sending technology. It’s about the individuals who receive the email. It’s about making the email offer or email content as relevant and valuable to them as possible. You need to be leading with the marketing and letting the technology bring it to life. Not the other way around.
